January 15, (THEWILL) – Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Almeria in their La Liga match on Sunday, failing to make up any significant ground on the top three teams in the league.

Diego Simeone’s side took the lead in the 18th minute through Angel Correa, but their lead was short-lived as El Bilal Toure equalized for Almeria just 19 minutes later. Atletico had a goal ruled out for offside by Geoffrey Kondogbia in the 32nd minute.

Despite several chances, Atletico were unable to retake the lead and the match ended in a draw. The result leaves Atletico in fourth place, 13 points behind leaders Barcelona. Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon was sent off in the closing stages of the match as Atletico’s disappointing run of form stretched to just one win in six league matches.

They will now travel to Levante for a Copa del Rey last-16 tie on Wednesday, while Almeria will be away at Valencia in their next LaLiga outing in eight days’ time.
