BANNED KENYA ATTORNEY GENERAL TO SUE US GOVERNMENT
San Francisco (THEWILL) - Banned Kenyan attorney general Amos Wako will sue the United States Government for defamatory comments made in a letter informing him of the travel ban imposed on him.
THEWILL had reported the ban on Monday after speaking with a US dept of State official, Russell Brooks, who said the Unites States, had sent out letters to 13 senior Kenyan officials informing them of a travel ban “for obstruction in the fight against corruption in the country.”
Wako is challenging the US government because it accused him in the letter of “Corrupt actions, which have adversely affected the national interests of the United States.”
Addressing a press conference in Nairobi, he said he was consulting with his lawyers and would seek redress in a US court. “I want to take the war there, in the United States of America”. He said the US ban was unfortunate as it was done in “bad faith” considering his ‘consistency in pursuing reforms’ in the country.
Senior Kenyan government personnel were fingered in frauds, which involved payments of millions of US dollars to phony companies for contracts that were not executed. The Kenyan anti graft agency had solicited the assistance of the British Serious Fraud Office, but the government has so far blocked the investigations and has refused to provide required evidence.
The United States and International donors have consistently criticized the Kenyan administration for not doing enough in stamping out corruption.
Nigeria is facing a similar circumstance as its attorney general, Michael Aondoakaa has frustrated the prosecution of corrupt politicians and businessmen.
