San Francisco Jan 9, (THEWILL) – Togolese players met overnight and agreed to play in the Nations Cup tournament in Angola even though the government withdraw the team after the rebel attack that killed three team members and injured more than ten.

Thomas Dossevi told the AFP that the players decided to stay back in memory of their dead colleagues.

“We are all heart broken, it is no longer a party, but we want to show our national colours, our values and that we are a team.

“It was a decision taken nearly unanimously by the team which met during the night after having been reassured by the Angolan authorities,” he said.

It is still not clear if Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor would return to Angola. The Club had reported on its website that Adebayor had returned to Togo.

A spokesperson for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) could not confirm the players' decision.
