NIgeria Qualifies For 2010 World Cup

San Francisco (THEWILL) - Nigeria today in Nairobi, Kenya, defeated the Harambee Stars of kenya 3-2, to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Nigerian Eagles came from a goal down to win 3-2.

Wolfsburg striker Obafemi Martins scored two goals, while Yakubu Aiyegbeni had one.

The Kenyan's had taken the lead in the 16th minute through its captain, Dennis Oliech. They held on to their lead until Martins fired home an equalizer in the 62nd minute.

Everton striker Aiyegbeni, scored the second goal in the 65rd minute to make scores 2-1.

In the 78th minute, the Kenyan's  scored again through Allan Wefende who capitalized on a lapse in Nigeria's defence line.

Martins netted the winner in the 83rd minute to give Nigeria a hard fought win.

However, group leader before today's matches, Tunisia lost 0-1 to Mozambique in Maputo. The Tunisian side conceded an 83rd minute goal. 

The Nigerian Eagles finished the qualifiers on top of group B with 12 points from 6 matches while Tunisia is second with 11 points.

* Cameroon qualify.

Group C

Rwanda 0 Zambia 0

Egypt 2 Algeria 0

* Egypt and Algeria are tied. Play-off fixed for Nov. 18 in Sudan.

Group D

Sudan 1 Benin 2

* Ghana had already qualified from this group.

Group E

Burkina Faso 1 Malawi 0

Cote d'Ivoire 3 Guinea 0

*Cote d'Ivoire qualify.

The World Cup fiesta begins in the summer of 2010 in South Africa.
