INCUMBENT SENATOR UCHE CHUKWUMERIJE (PDP).

SAN FRANCISCO, April 09, (THEWILL) - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has emerged clear front runners as the party records commanding early lead in the National Assembly election conducted today.
Results trickling in from various polling units across the state indicate that the party may win all the three senatorial seats and the seven federal constituencies.

Election did not hold in Isiala Ngwa South/North federal constituency.

In Abia South, incumbent Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe looks set to record a landslide victory against his closest rival Nyerere Anyim of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). Already results from the six local councils in the district as at press time went the PDP. The party has lost only in one polling unit.

Final collation of results from the councils are going on at press time.

Similarly, the seating lawmakers in the House of Representatives; Hon Eziuche Ubani and Hon Uzoma Abonta are coasting home to victory.

However, incumbent Rep Nnanna Uzor Kalu of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) who is serving his second term in the House of Representatives may be on his way out.

Kalu is trailing behind a serving member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Uzor Azubike.

Interestingly, former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu of PPA may have his ambition of gracing the Senate chambers eclipsed as results show that Senator Uche Chukwumerije of the PDP is trouncing him in every area of Abia North except in his Igbere ward. Already PDP seems to have claimed victory in Ohafia, Umunneochi, Isikwuato, Arochukwu and majority of other wards in the councils where collation are still going on at press time.

In Abia Central, incumbent Senator Nkechi Nwaogu is also heading to victory as result from the polling units indicate.

Final result is being awaited at press time.

Meanwhile, the election was generally peaceful without any incident recorded.
