San Francisco, May 13, (THEWILL) – Embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Vincent Ogbulafor has resigned as party chairman, confirming THEWILL’s earlier exclusive report that he would resign today (Thursday).

Ogbulafor tendered his letter of resignation to The National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu on Thursday evening in Abuja.

The politician is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over N104 million fraud allegedly perpetrated by him while he was a minister.

President Goodluck Jonathan had pressured PDP Governors to force Ogbulafor to resign because of his prosecution in court.

Before his resignation, Ogbulafor had insisted that he would not resign since the court has not found him guilty but President Jonathan had given him till Thursday morning to resign his chairmanship.

With his resignation, Dr. Haliu Bello according to the party's constitution takes over as the next in line until a new Chairman is chosen.
