San Francisco, April 29, (THEWILL) - Senate President David Mark has restated the National Assembly’s commitment to create more states in the federation.

He said the creation of more states would meet the yearnings of the people.

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Mr. Paul Mumeh, Mark said, "I believe that state creation is a necessary legislative exercise to meet the yearnings and aspirations of our people. I am convinced it would be a worthy venture.

"I believe that this administration has started well with constitution review and we are proceeding in considering creation of more States across the country."

The aide said Mark spoke in Abuja on Thursday while addressing a delegation of agitators from Kaduna State pushing for the creation of a New Kaduna State.

"The more States we create, the stronger the nation will be.  It will create healthy competition among the states. It will engender development."

Chairman of the New Kaduna State Movement, Alhaji Abbas Dabo Sambo, said the proposed state would be viable adding that the proposed state has a projected population going by the latest census figure of 5,090,911 (or 73.42 percent) of the estimated 6,934,001 population figure of the present Kaduna State.

"Its economic viability is justified on the agricultural and tourism potentials, industrial base and mineral resources that abound in and around the proposed state."
