San Francisco April 13, (THEWILL) - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today formally declared former Delta State Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori wanted over an "on-going investigation into some allegations of official corruption and money laundering."

The EFCC statement said, "following persistent public enquiries over the status of the case involving the former governor, we will like the public to know that Chief James Ibori is wanted by the Commission for interrogation."

"In this regard, letters of invitation have been sent to his known addresses in Lagos and Abuja while a court warrant has equally been obtained for his arrest," the statement added.

But Ibori in a conference call with THEWILL berated the commission for politicizing the investigation into the alleged use of Delta State Government shares as collateral to obtain credit from a Nigerian bank for a private company linked to him.

Obviously not willing to turn himself in, Ibori said, "It is all about Yar’Adua politics. I have not received any formal invitation at my addresses, this is all about embarrassing my person. My lawyer has been instructed to challenge the warrant issued for my arrest in court."
