Andy Uba Signs Pact With Labour Party, Promises Not To Decamp
Abuja (THEWILL) - Labour Party governorship candidate in the February 2011 gubernatorial election Dr. Andy Uba has agreed in principle with the party that he will not decamp to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if he wins the governorship race.
The agreement was made on Monday at LP’s Abuja Secretariat after he accepted the party’s offer to become its candidate in the election. Dr. Uba was said to have pledged his loyalty to the party at the meeting.
Dr. Uba will contest the election will 23 other candidates.
Meanwhile the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political parties without candidates to stay away from electoral campaigns obviously referring to the PDP whose candidate Professor Charles Soludo was barred from the elections by an Abuja Appeal Court pending the determination of a suit before it.
The Commission’s Chairman Professor Maurice Iwu issued the warning at a meeting with all the governorship candidates in Awka, Anambra State on Wednesday where he also announced that the commission had made available N6,000,000 naira to each of the parties to prepare for the election.
Some of the candidates for the election according a document signed by INEC Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rowland Uwa, include incumbent governor Mr. Peter Obi (APGA), Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu (CDC), Dr. Andy Uba (LP), Mike Nwafor (ALP), Dr. Chris Ngige (AC) and Mrs. Uche Ekwenife (PPA). The Column for the PDP candidate was marked “Subject to court litigation.”
The election is slated for February 6, 2011.
