Abuja (THEWILL) - The Inspector General of Police Ogbonnaya Onovo has issued arrest warrants for the duo of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Nasir El-Rufai for alleged treasonable offences.

THEWILL checks show the warrants were issued on November 5, 2009.

Mallam Ribadu, the former chairman of the Economic and Financials Crimes Commission and El-Rufai, a former minister of the FCT, have been accused of embarrassing the administration before the international community by the Yar’adua government. Angered by their consistent criticisms, the administration had gone as far as issuing directives to Nigerian missions abroad to deny them consular services but withdrew it after it was leaked to the media.

Ribadu and El-Rufai have repeatedly criticized the present administration over its policies and actions. Both men are also currently fighting charges brought against them by the government in Abuja courts. The courts had earlier issued orders for their arrests for failing to appear before it.

The former minister of the FCT last month announced he would return to the country this month after staying away for more than two years.
