Abuja (THEWILL)- A Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday told former CBN boss, Prof. Charles Soludo and his political party, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to shelve all campaigns associated with the Anambra State gubernatorial elections.

The court led by Justice Mary Odili, ruled that any campaigns or efforts towards the election would amount to futility, as long the appeal against his candidacy by aggrieved members of the party remains undecided.

Two aggrieved governorship aspirants of the PDP had gone to court to challenge the nomination of Charles Soludo as the party’s flag bearer in the 2011 governorship election. The aspirants, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo and Mrs. Victoria Nwankwo have asked the court to stop the former central bank governor from parading himself as the governorship candidate of the party because due process was not followed in his nomination.

Justice Odili informed the parties that hearing would begin on Friday.

However Charles Soludo in a press conference in Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday said all was set for his governorship campaign, which the Vice President is scheduled to flag off at the Holy Trinity of the Basilica in Onitsha on Wednesday. He denied the existence of any court order(s) advising him to halt his campaign.

Members of The PDP Anambra State Chapter have been locked in a fierce battle over who should fly the party’s flag at the 2010 governorship election. The party is currently divided along three major lines; the Chris Uba group, Andy Uba group and the Charles Soludo group, which seem to have the upper hand now.
