SAN FRANCISCO, February 01, (THEWILL) – A man believed to be the spokesman of the terrorist group  Boko Haram has been detained by Nigerian authorities, a top security source told THEWILL Wednesday.

Known in the media as Abul Qaqa, the source said he was arrested in Kaduna, a northern State, which today hosted a meeting of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

“We have arrested Abul Qaqa, the so-called spokesman of the Boko Haram sect and one of its leaders,” SSS Director in Maiduguri, Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, confirmed to journalists on Wednesday night.

Surprisingly, another security source said Qada is from Igbira, Kogi State, located in the middle belt of Nigeria. The source declined to say whether Abul Qada is the spokesman's real name, who was detained alongside another person suspected to be a member of the sect.

THEWILL checks at the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) confirmed the detention of a high profile target within the Boko Haram but there was no immediate confirmation that the person held is indeed 'Abul Qada.'

Recall the SSS had also arrested Kabiru Sokoto, the mastermind of the Christmas Day bombing of a Catholic church in Madalla, near Abuja, only for rogue police officials to set him free a few days later claiming that he escaped.
