KANO, January 24, (THEWILL) - Security personnel shot and killed one Uzairu Abba Abdullahi, 32, and his wife on Monday night during a gun fight with members of the Boko Haram in Hotoro quarters of Kano City.

The joint operation was executed by personnel of the State Security Services (SSS), the military and a Mobile Police team who stormed a Boko Haram hideout and engaged them in a gun duel that lasted for hours.

THEWILL gathered that the operation was carried out following a tip off.

A resident of the area who spoke to THEWILL described the sporadic gunshots as “music of war; in fact, let me tell you that from 12 midnight to 5 a.m., we could not sleep.

“A neighbour of mine who has high blood pressure collapsed and had to be rehabilitated this morning,” a resident of Tsammiya Boka who does not want his name published told THEWILL.

Uzairu has been engaged in business since he left Bayero University, Kano in 2002 with a Degree in Mass Communications, THEWILL was told.

Security operatives have refused to release their bodies to family members for burial, THEWILL gathered.

Meanwhile, fresh reports out of Kano indicate that security operatives and the Boko Haram are engaged in a gun fight.
