Update: Police Confirm 186 Deaths In Kano BH Attacks

KANO, January 23, (THEWILL) - The Kano State Police Command Monday evening said it has confirmed 186 deaths following Friday's coordinated attacks in Kano by the Boko Haram Islamic terrorist sect.

Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris in a press release, explained that the civilian casualties reached 151, including a Channels TV reporter, while the Police Command lost a total of 29 personnel during the attacks.

The Police statement further revealed that the state security service lost three personnel; Nigerian Immigration Services lost two officers; while the Nigerian Customs Services also lost personnel.

He said the state Police Command recovered ten vehicles -- Honda CRV, Toyota Camry (various models), Honda Brahma, Golf, and a Toyota starlet, all already wired with improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at locations in the Sheka quarters, NNPC Mega filling station Hotoro, Tishama Goron Dutse, Miller road and the police headquarters road Bompai in the metropolis.

The commissioner also commiserated with members of the public and urged them to continue to assist the police and security agencies in protecting lives and properties across the state, while also wishing all those who suffered various degrees of injuries quick recovery.
