Update: Several Explosion At Kano; Police HQ, Immigration, SSS, Targetted

SAN FRANCISCO, January 20, (THEWILL) – Multiple explosions have targeted several Police Stations in Kano, including the Kano Police Command headquarters. Eyewitnesses say they have heard cracks of gunfire and more than 18 explosions in what looks like a gun battle between security agencies and radical Islamists. There are reports of heavy gunfire in the entire Kano metropolis while residents have taken shelter.

Casualty figures and the extent of damage are not yet known, but many have been killed, according to reports.

Another explosion is said to have rocked the SSS headquarters located along Sarduana Crescent in Nasarawa Ward, and there are reports that SSS operatives have killed one of the attackers, in attacks that so far have the hallmark of the Islamic terrorist sect, Boo Haram.

UPDATE: So Far 7 Killed In Kano

Multiple bomb explosion hit three police posts in Kano early Friday evening.

The blasts occurred at zone 1 office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of the three states of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states. The office complex is located along Bayero University (BUK) road.

Two other blasts rocked the Zaria Road police station and Farm Centre police station in Kano metropolis.

THEWILL correspondent in Kano reports that a lone suicide bomber in a Golf car carrying a Lagos number tag crashed into the Zone 1 Police headquarters, killing himself and three police men, while several others sustained wounds.

When the suicide bomber arrived the premises at about 5.30 pm, policemen on guard at the entrance of the complex halted him for a routine check but he declined and crashed into the gate, ramming into vehicles parked besides the main building, before a blast was heard. The explosion destroyed buildings around the area.

An Immigration office was also attacked by gunmen leaving three officers dead and other civilians dead.

However security operatives have been drafted to all major streets in the state with people staying indoors for their safety.

A reporter with Channels TV in Kano, Mr. Enenche Okwumgu was also killed, while filming the attack at Farm centre police station.
