Dear Sir,

WHY IS OBI SHOPPING FOR MEDIA SUPPORTERS?

An online publication ‘www.ukpakareports.com’ soaring away with stories mostly on matters that concern the south-east posted on 17/12/10 that Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State is shopping for media supporters against the appeal court case instituted by former Governor Chris Ngige, in Enugu High Court concerning the disputed 2010 Anambra Governorship election.

It is only in Nigeria that a governor would be elected with 79,000 votes (out of over 2million registered voters) to be considered (in order) to govern a population of over 4million people. This shows that our electoral law is deficient or that we are just mocking democracy. For that singular reason coupled with other irregularities that took place during the Anambra 2010 made many believe that Ngige should see the case to the logical conclusion.

Governor Obi need not shop for media supporters towards the issue. If he was sure of the victory he got, he should relax and win in a re-run should the court say so. That is the only way to test his ‘popularity’ among those he is governing. It is most likely that Obi might lose if there is a re-run hence he shops for media supporters.

During the issue of N240million cash in suitcases driven in Peter Obi’s official car, I was among those that advocated it would be an exercise in futility trying to investigate because he has the advantage of Immunity and Security Votes. That does not mean that I support corruption in any arm and level of governance but what disturbed me was when Obi started denying paternity of the fund. Cash caught in his official car? That denial will definitely continue to hunt the Governor Obi, morally.

As there is likely to be a re-run, then it is not exactly how Peter Obi regained his mandate from Ngige. Obi’s case against Ngige was just like what we have witnessed in Ekiti, Osun and Ondo while the Ngige’s against Obi would be like what is turning out now in Delta State.
