JONATHAN AND HIS MISPLACED ACTIONS & UTTERANCES

It seems President Goodluck Jonathan has so many inadequacies to his credit within his few months of leadership. Therefore it may be difficult for Nigerians to go ahead with him for another four years unless he starts making amends.

When COJA ended, the President ordered investigation into an alleged fraud associated with Dr. Amos Adamu-led committee; till date no outcome. FIFA has sanctioned Adamu for a later offence? President Jonathan said he spoke with late President Umaru Yar’Adua on sick bed; he later recanted immediately he became substantive President.

After the last Football World Cup, Jonathan in his judgement banned Nigeria from international soccer for two years; FIFA threatened and he recanted. He proposed six new federal universities whereas the existing ones are not well funded; and the House of Representatives’ Committee on Education has condemned.

President Jonathan is set to push more Nigerians into the saturated labour market by unbanning importation of textile materials, furniture, toothpick etc and even extended allowing age of used vehicles from 10 to 15 years thereby making Nigeria a dumping ground (for expired vehicles?). As revealed by Wikileak, Jonathan told former American Envoy to Nigeria, Sanders that he was not interested in contesting for the President in 2011 but only concerned in conducting credible election. He has just denied this but can he deny the one we all saw on CNN of his interview with Chris Amanpour?

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo endeavoured to clear (almost) the backlog of our foreign debts and now President Jonathan has gone for another round of foreign loans and seems to have given avenue for State governors to join the bandwagon. Our foreign reserve is going down on daily basis so also is the Excess Crude Oil Account going extinct.

One thing is looking clear; President Goodluck Jonathan may be a good social person, but he may not be who Nigeria needs for another four years. Mr. President’s advisers are making people perceive him as an unserious leader. He should cultivate mind of his own and weigh things properly before making decisions or statements after all he has been in governance for over eleven years; he should be well tutored by now.
