NOW THAT EFCC HAS GOTTEN PETITION AGAINST EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN

Let us see who is playing hide-and-seek game with serious matters.  The EFCC Chairman, Farida Waziri, has always maintained that until a petition is filed against any serving or former elected or appointed government official or anybody for that matter would she order the anti-graft agency to commence investigation.  According to her - “I do not act on hearsay; I need someone to petition about someone or something before we can commence any investigation”. She made this assertion when she was urged to investigate a celebrated case of allegation against a serving governor who tried to ferry $3.4million in cash to Abuja from Lagos via Arik Airline. She waited until 45 days later, enabling Bank PHB to claim paternity of the fund; and the matter died just like that?

Now concerning former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan: In spite of the London Metropolitan Police confirming that Emmanuel Udughan was involved in laundering money for former Governor James Ibori (his cousin), there was never a time the EFCC mentioned Uduaghan’s name throughout its search for Ibori. Ibori later fled to Dubai with the alleged assistance of Nigeria Police. Now that the respected Delta State Elder and Ijaw Leader, Edwin Clark, has petitioned and with nothing providing immunity for Uduaghan, what is EFCC waiting for his prosecution? Is Farida waiting for Uduaghan’s re-election just as in the case of Liyel Imoke of Cross River State for her to start shouting that EFCC’s hands were tied due to no petition? This type of action or inaction projects EFCC’s involvement in selective prosecution.

The EFCC is embroiled in alleged sale of N1billion property seized from an accused person even as the case is still being investigated; the presidency has now queried the anti-graft body on the matter.  Let this not be the end of the matter hence many are advocating that EFCC should have another or many other bodies to police it. No matter the angle one may look at it, EFCC is perceived as a tool used by its employer.
