UZOR KALU REPORTS SELF AND THE IGP RINGIM

Going through advertisement placed by Hon Nnanna Uzor Kalu Campaign Organization on page 30 of Daily SUN of Tuesday 23/11/10 entitled “UNLAWFUL HARASSSMENT OF HON NNANNA ORJO UZOR KALU”, the honourable representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly has unwittingly reported the IGP Hafiz Ringim to the public.

In the advertorial which tended to portray that the Abia State government’s machinery was after him, he said inter alia that “These series of harassments with armed naval officers who stopped him and demanded to search his vehicles, the pilot and support cars under the full supervision of the Abia State Special Adviser on Security was in the guise that they were in search of an undisclosed individual whom they claimed he was carrying in the vehicle”. Apart from reporting himself to the IGP Ringim, he has also reported that IGP Ringim is not doing his job.

He reported himself by assuming that he was supposed to be above the law and therefore should not be searched while on the road for whatever reason, hence he felt ‘insulted’ that he was stopped and searched at three checkpoints at Owerrrinta, Ugba junction and Eke Aro junctions all along Isiala Ngwa South and Osisioma LGA end of the expressway leading to Aba. He reported the IGoP Hafiz Ringim’s deficiency for allowing a pilot vehicle and other entourage which must have included Police orderlies/escorts of just an ordinary federal house member. Whereas the IGoP had on assumption of office insisted that he would make a difference and that those who are not qualified to keep police details shall be stripped of them.

This is why I agree with those who posit that the public should not expect much from the present IGoP because he has been in the corrupt system, more so when one considers how he secured the job in spite of his overseeing the worst commercial kidnapping that took place in the South-East when he was stationed in Umuahia as AIGoP for the zone. One starts wondering; when would the right person be put to head the Police Force?

Chief Kenneth Holmes, Okigwe Road, OWERRI, Imo State.
