THE BLUNDERS OF NIGERIA’S FIRST FAMILY

I do respect our First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, hence I would want her to always rehearse what speeches she tends for any function or at least should restrict herself to written speeches. During the activity marking the launching of Abuja chapter of her pet project (Women for Change Initiative), she ‘bombed’ the attendees.

She spoke extempore, thus: …. “The people sitting before you here were once a children.” … “The bombers, who born them...wasn’t it not a woman?” …”They were once a children, now an adult and now they are bombing women and children, making some children a widow.”  A replay of the recorded tape of the event would prove this fact.

The first lady may be educated but she should not dare speak extempore any longer. This is not the first time she would be making such mistakes while speaking out of prepared speech. Even the attitude she displayed during her visit to (her) Rivers State against a sitting governor and the blunder in making the list of her 50-women Award are enough for their handlers to really tutor her.

When a first lady involves in such mistakes as pointed out above, President Jonathan himself is busy making unguarded statements that should have been left for his aides.  Some of such mistakes include saying that his party (PDP) never zoned the presidency; and the hasty exoneration of MEND on the October 1st Abuja bomb blasts that claimed many innocent souls, President Jonathan while absolving MEND portrayed himself a member of the movement by saying that they have one of their own as ‘President for four months now”. He also exonerated them from the oil thefts going on in the Niger Delta region.

One may wish to advise that the first lady should break her silence and ensure that she announces regrets over the three deaths recorded among those that were trying to get their share of Rice which she recently tried distributing at Abuja as part of her programme marking the 50th anniversary of the nation.
