Dear Editor,

OBASANJO AS GOODLUCK JONTHAN AND MINORITIES’ ALBATROSS

There is no doubt that the actions of President Jonathan are that of “voice of Esau but hand of Jacob”. But all one would continue to advise our President is that he should have mind of his own; he should not go by the dictates of a dictator which he gradually seeming. We are in democracy and he should not allow self to be led into destruction as the tendency now.

It will be recalled that it was Obasanjo that first fired the salvo claiming that there was no zoning in the PDP; a clause that ensured his two term tenure and even with an attempted third term. Documents that were later produced by PDP countered his claim. Even the PDP as a party confirmed it has zoning enshrined in its constitution but that Goodluck Jonathan could vie for the PDP presidential ticket. Even Jonathan’s northern supporters reduced it to that Jonathan was running to complete the Yar’Adua/Jonathan eight year tenure; Vice President Sambo lent his voice that for him pairing Jonathan for the slot, it was still like Yar’Adua/Jonathan; only that providence turned it the other way round.

All these statements were taken but what broke the camel’s back was Goodluck Jonathan, who when submitting his nomination form and to consternation of many shouted it loud and clear that there was no zoning in PDP’s constitution thereby ridiculously echoing his mentor’s (Obasanjo’s) claim. What stands to benefit the minorities in the future is now being eroded because of one man’s (Obasanjo) antics.
In almost all the presidential state visits by President Goodluck Jonathan (to many Nigerian States), once more than one day visit had seen Obasanjo suddenly appear at the scene. It happened so in Oyo, Akwa Ibom, and recently in Plateau where it was reported Jonathan gave lots of accolade to him. It is also believed that recent utterances and actions especially concerning the bombing of Abuja and political hara-kiri are the scripts written for Jonathan by Obasanjo. Our amiable President should be careful else Obasanjo becomes his albatross.
