WHICH UDENTA?

One of the persons who authored a recent advertisement, titled "We Will Not Be Deterred By the Politics of Impunity, Silence, Fear, Intimidation and Harassment", which appeared in several national newspapers, appended his signature over the name Dr. Udenta O, Udenta, Director-General, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki Campaign Organization.

I know of one Udenta O. Udenta who was Director at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Abuja. I also know that this same man had a stint, as lecturer in a university in Enugu before joining the services of IPCR. I was a lecturer in his Department and I can attest to the fact that he does not have a doctorate degree, nor is he a medical doctor. In fact, he once registered for a doctorate degree programme in the University but dropped out.

If it is the same Udenta O. Udenta who now knowingly signs a public document under the name of Dr. Udenta, then it is a case of public deception, impersonation and fraud. Inadvertently calling a person "Doctor" may be an acceptable error. But for a man to append his signature to a false claim is inexcusable. Appointing such a person as Mr. Udenta to be leader of the Campaign Organisation of a Presidential aspirant in Nigeria says a lot about the candidate’s credibility. It is a shame!
