FEDERAL APPOINTMENTS: IS ABIA THE ONLY SOUTH EAST STATE?
Sir, FEDERAL APPOINTMENTS: IS ABIA THE ONLY SOUTH EAST STATE? When I hear people say that President Jonathan’s government has been very kind to the Igbo people, I get irritated. Recently noises were made that two Igbo persons are now Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs); also that Igbo persons are heading the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigerian Army. But a close look would show that all the appointments for the Igbo nation are from only Abia State. The funniest of them all is that the two new DIGs of Police are from Abia State whereas you have other possible persons from other Igbo States (Anambra, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi) who could have been made to occupy one of those Police hierarchies. Ironically Abia is still the hotbed of crimes in the south-east. With this singular positioning, the present government has failed as usual to conduct due diligence before making those appointments. If Okwesilieze Nwodo did not replace his close friend, Vincent Ogbulafor as the national chairman of PDP, an Abia indigene would still have been there. Indigenes of President Goodluck Jonathan’s State of Bayelsa are in key positions whether they are qualified or not. Few of these positions are that of Petroleum Ministry (in charge of our revenue earner of Oil and Gas?). They also hold Foreign Affairs. And yet in here comes the new National Security Adviser, General Azazi, with no deputy as in the case when Gen Aliyu Gusau was there when Col Are was foisted on him as a deputy; probably to checkmate Gusau. Who says there is no nepotism in Goodluck Jonathan? President Jonathan has only succeeded in making PDP a southern party where the BoT Chairman, the President (himself), the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the national Chairman. I only pity Nwodo who is temporarily allowed to be the national Chairman of the party because he would be the first to be removed when the revolution within the party starts; he would be a sacrificial lamb after he has been used in advocating the jettisoning of the zoning system which PDP enshrined in its constitution.
