AKWA IBOM POLICE USUAL COMMENTS ON CRIMES
Dear Editor, AKWA IBOM POLICE USUAL COMMENTS ON CRIMES It was gratifying to note that the Onna Local Government Chairman, Deaconess Omodighe Ekpoata kidnapped on her way to Uyo 19/08/10 has been released. Police Commissioner Walter Rugbere in The Punch and The Nation of 27/08/10 said he heard that she was released at 1a.m on Thursday 26/08/10; he would not know if her family paid any ransom. He further said his men were still keeping vigil at the house of one of the suspected kidnappers said to be at large. When General Edet Akpan (rtd) was kidnapped, Rugbere promised to arrest the kidnappers but till today nothing has been hear of this. When the father of a former governorship aspirant, Mr. Nsima Ekere, was kidnapped, Rugbere said that his men stormed the hideout of the kidnappers and arrested them together with the N40million ransom cash-money and also recovered some AK-47 rifles with some unexpired ammunitions but for security reasons, he said, their names would not be given out and till today it remained so. When a brother to Senator Bob Effiong was kidnapped, Rugbere said that his men, on tip off, stormed the kidnappers den; killed three of them and captured none alive. When Paul Inyang was assassinated in church premises, the Police Commissioner in conjunction with the Akwa Ibom SSG immediately identified one Monday Umuotong who had benefitted from Governor Akpabio’s benevolence as the mastermind of the assassination; the Governor without recourse to rule of law ordered that Monday’s house be demolished. When the mother of a gubernatorial aspirant, the Singapore based ship builder, Engineer Udonwa, was kidnapped, Rugbere said that the kidnappers promised to release the old woman if Udonwa’s family confirms that the shot Engineer was dead; true to it, the woman was murdered and dumpef along the street by her captors after fifty days because Engineer Udonwa escaped back to Singapore, with gun wounds. Furthermore, Rugbere has not issued any sympathy message to the family of his officer killed in the process of Onna LGA Chairman’s kidnap. One feels that Rugbere is due for redeployment or retirement, more so he was senior to Onovo in the service. Mr. Sunday Okon Isong, 88 Kehinde Street, AGBARA, Ogun State.
