VICE PRESIDENT SAMBO AS A PAPER-WEIGHT

Dear Editor,

VICE PRESIDENT SAMBO AS A PAPER-WEIGHT

The first mistake Jonathan made was appointing former Governor of Kaduna State as his deputy. Jonathan must have been parochial in his thought that appointing a stronger deputy might jeopardise his chances of achieving his zoning stance. He would not want a strong man who may turn to challenge him.

So far Vice President Sambo has continued in his ways as governor of Kaduna State and a member of league of State Governors. The tendency could be to continue covering up possible fraudulent acts of his former colleagues, indirectly shielding himself. This is evident when President Jonathan put on the shoulder of his deputy the responsibility of cross-checking the genuineness of claims made by some State governors who are seeking refund money purportedly spent on federal projects in their domain. One had thought that Sambo would use his pedigree as an architect to handle the job satisfactorily professional. But many months gone, he seems not to have been able to come up with details. Otherwise, how could he be keeping quiet in clear knowledge that some governors have claimed outrageous costs per kilometre for road reconstructed on behalf of the federal government, some going between N800million and N1billion per kilometre? One has to blame Vice President Sambo because public funds are not there to be shared. For all one knows, nemesis would soon catch up with all of them sooner than they think. Ibori is a reference.

Sambo has again been given the assignment on New Nigerian newspapers lingering problems. He may not have started properly on this assignment. New Nigerian newspapers need re-tooling in order to make it attractive to any investor or even to the staff. Probably the establishment is being positioned to be sold for peanuts. All I am insinuating is that Sambo could be a willing horse as he is not a strong character and the thoughts of Jonathan about this man may turn out to be his albatross.
