Sir,

AKWA IBOM: ANOTHER POLITICAL ASSASSINATION RECORDED

Just last Sunday (morning) June 20, 2010 in Akwa Ibom a former PDP’s Zonal Assistant Secretary during Attah’s tenure, Mr. Paul Inyang, was ‘sacrificed’ in the premises of Ebenezer African Church at Ibesikpo Asutan. This dastardly act must be unravelled.

Some curiosities are recorded of the incident that happened 12noon, outside Uyo town: Police Commissioner Rugbere’s men were quick to visit the house of the alleged gang leader with such urgency and according to him, in the presence of the wife and children, searched his house and was declared on the run; the Akwa Ibom Governor attributed the incident to handiwork of the opposition having written to the Presidency a week earlier of such plan.

All these formed the storyline that accompanied the incident of the Sunday when most reporters are in their respective churches for worships; they were able to assemble, followed up the reported developments and filed stories (all within few hours) to meet deadline of their next morning’s newspapers?

A good investigation would show that there is nothing to indicate that the assassinated was Governor Akpabio’s close associates as erroneously reported by some media. He neither held any elected nor appointed office safe for the one reported above during the tenure of immediate-past administration. He was never reported to be in any political camp in the state.

2011 is almost here and many lives may be in danger. Not quite long ago, Engineer Udonwa, a Singapore ship builder returned to Akwa Ibom seeking to contribute his quota, showed interest in the governorship race. He was shot and up till today his mother remains in kidnappers’ custody while he was reportedly flown overseas for further medical attention. Before then Police Commissioner said he was receiving medical attention in an undisclosed Uyo hospital.

It is a recurring point that the Police Commissioner would always parade alleged kidnappers but none linked to high profile kidnap cases like that of General Akpan and Pa Ekere that Police Commissioner said they recovered some AK-47 raffles and N40million ransom cash.
