Sir,

SECOND TERM: GOV ORJI LOSING TO INSECURITY

The governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji’s second term bid definitely would not be easy. Even with his closeness to President Jonathan, PDP members in Abia would not allow any imposition. In his party, PPA, Orji has his deputy; Akomas and his kinsmen who believe it’s their turn come 2011. The fight is getting fierce.

Akomas is not the only Ngwa person positioning to take a shot at the exalted seat. There is also the former deputy of Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Abaribe, now of the PDP. Searching the mind of former governor Orji Kalu, instead of Theodore Orji to return, he prefers Ngwa person.

But at the centre of the whole thing are non-performance and the insecurity which is rapidly gaining grounds in the commercial city of Aba and other areas therein Abia State. I have been visiting Aba for past few days; just imagine! For some days now, the commercial activities in Aba have been paralyzed up to the point of banks being under locks and keys; if this is so, where then is the lifeline of commercial activities in the commercial city? Even as reported in media on Tuesday June 8, 2010, armed robbers have written the banks operating in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, of impending attacks. This happened in the past and was made good. Kidnapping is reported almost every day. Reading Compass newspaper page 4 of June 8, 2010, a monarch of the oil-rich Iseitieioha Owaza autonomous community in Ukwa West LGA of the state, Eze Mathew Nwamuo was abducted by unknown gunmen.

The state of insecurity in the Abia State could be said to be more of commercial kidnapping and banditry than political kidnappings that are the bane of its neighbouring Akwa Ibom State. For Orji to return as governor under any political platform he must ensure that he overcomes the weighty insecurity that is destroying his rule and his media consultants are doing any good for him.
