PDP CHAIRMANSHIP: BETWEEN ANYIM AND NWODO
Sir,
PDP CHAIRMANSHIP: BETWEEN ANYIM AND NWODO
At the front burner of the PDP as a party is its national Chairman seat left vacant by Prince Vincent Ogbulafor. Ogbulafor, who vowed not to resign even at strong recommendations of well meaning citizens within and outside PDP as a result of the court action instituted against him by ICPC, eventually threw in the towel. According to him he did so in order to prove his innocence as he goes on trial for stealing public fund.
The aftermath of his resignation was avalanche of persons seeking to replace him. Most names that feature are coming from his south-east region. At a point it was touted that as a matter of fact he should be replaced by someone from the north because some argued; since President Jonathan is from the south. But if this idea had sailed through, many people would have proved Ogbulafor right when he made the likes of Arewa Youth Forum and Yakassai say that Jonathan wants him out so as to appoint someone from the north in order for him (Jonathan) to contest for the president come 2011. Nevertheless for Jonathan “to contest or not to contest” is now a national discourse.
From the packs that are jostling to occupy the vacant post of national Chairman of PDP, one believes that former Senate President Pius Anyim stands at a better advantage. If Okwesilieze Nwodo should take it, it then means that Enugu State would boast of Deputy Senate President and national Chairman of the ruling party, while some other states would boast of nothing. But from whatever angle you look at it, Anyim is more qualified. Anyim was the frontrunner for the same post when former President Obasanjo backed Sam Egwu; Egwu and Anyim are from Ebonyi State. At the point of the confusion set by Obasanjo the sitting governors got the opportunity to support Ogbulafor as a compromise candidate.
But reading NEXT newspaper of May 20, 2010 one was confused whether Fidelis Ozichukwu actually the new PDP national Chairman as reported therein.
