The Editor

Dear Sir,

INEC: N2.8B WITHDRAWN IN TWO DAYS

The report that INEC management (refer to The Punch and This Day of Monday 3/5/10) withdrew N2.8billion within two days to the day the Professor Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave is worth paying attention to. If that is not a fraud, then someone should please say what it is.

Those of the school of thought that were condemning how Professor Maurice Iwu was removed are wrong. Such persons are not thinking of moving the country forward. We were talking about someone who conducted the 2006 elections that were punctuated with irregularities, leading to so many ‘victory’ upturns. The recent of his worst was disenfranchising more than 85% of registered voters in the Anambra 2010 that produced a governor for a State with about four million persons with only seventy nine thousand votes. For all that is worthy, Governor Peter Obi remains unpopular hence he might not have peace until justice is obtained and a proper re-run conducted; no matter how long it takes the judiciary. Must we continue to live with being retrogressive in our attitudes?

Even when on terminal leave, Iwu refused to obey the simple instruction of handing over to the next most senior officer rather he locked up his office which resulted in forceful entry by the youthful Umeadi. Even at the swearing in of Soyeibi, he was still not available to do the handing over. While the impasse lasted, he was bold to write to then acting President Jonathan on why he has not handed over. Who is he to dictate to authorities? Now his passport has been seized.

Most Nigerians in authority live in a manner that could be best described as indiscipline and corrupt and yet we have anti-graft agencies that run around as if they are too busy. No wonder corruption is the biggest growing monster in our society today.
