EFCC SHOULD BE MORE PROACTIVE
Sir,
EFCC SHOULD BE MORE PROACTIVE
I feel so disturbed that many persons are living above board in this country. People in government are looting with impunity and being encouraged by our toothless anti-graft agencies. The agencies only make noise and behave compromised. Where they act at all, they do so selectively; most of the times allow who pays the piper to dictate the tune. To stem the tide of the growing monster (corruption), the agencies should emphasize or act more proactive.
There are many questions that are still unanswered, which relates to past utterances made by operatives of anti-graft agencies. Take for instance; Farida Waziri, when new on seat, openly gave a good example of corruption when she said that a first term governor of south-south region, few months on seat, bought One billion Naira properties in Abuja. Till date she has not found it necessary to mention who the governor is let alone investigated the case. This is in spite of many public requests for that. Waziri also claimed to have sent to the National Assembly a bill seeking to amend the immunity clause in our constitution and there is no sign that she is following this up. There is also the aspect that a governor’s brother why seeking for a foreign country’s visa presented a bank statement said to contain more than one billion naira lodgement and when the foreign consulate alerted the EFCC; nothing was done.
Nigeria authorities are just going in circle concerning fight against corruption and this will lead us to no good end. This makes me feel that a suggestion on how best to fight corruption should be Ghana and China ways. Those would give a break from the past.
