AKPABIO MEN’S CAMPAIGN OF DISINFORMATION

One really would not know how our Governor, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, would feel after reading an article on page 47, COMPASS newspaper Thursday 22/04/10, entitled “Akpabio: One of the finest from the South-South” also in the LEADERSHIP newspaper Monday 26/04/10 written by one Muhammed, the National Coordinator, Freedom and Democracy in Nigeria (FADIN), Abuja. Muhammed was credited with an email address of lipsog@yahoo.com, and GSM numbers 08098906771, 08055272290. 

The article said that “utmost land mark achievements made by Akpabio” were: He started and completed 191MW Power Plant at Ikot Abasi that has electrified over 1200 villages now enjoying 24-hour electricity supply; he recorded great feats in housing by establishing the Shelter Afrique Housing at Mbiabong, Akwa Ima Housing for State Legislators, Ebiye Haven, Federal Low Cost Housing, the Green Estate of Akwa Savings & Loans Limited, Mobil Staff Estate at Mbiabong and also covered the 31 LGAs each with 50 units of 3 bedroom bungalows and further proposed Housing Estates of 200 units in Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket and also initiated Public-Private-Partnership-Initiatives (PPPI) to build 10,000 housing within the next few years.

This writer called and spoke with thanks to Muhammed immediately on reading the article, first and foremost, for highlighting Akwa Ibom. I then informed him that he must have been misinformed because all the above developmental projects that he attributed to Akpabio were things by earlier governments. Muhammed thanked me, and said that he was invited to Akwa Ibom on a guided tour to see those projects and at the end was told that they were executed by Akpabio’s administration. He tried exonerating himself by explaining that “You know I do not leave there; I only relied on what I saw and the information that was given to me”. Convinced that he must have been deceived by governor’s men, Muhammed apologized and requested that I send him email on this. There is (also now) the ranging controversy over the undelivered promises on the N33billion Ibom Tropicana Centre project.
