BEVERLY HILLS, October 23, (THEWILL) – The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied involvement in the reinstatement of Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina into the Federal Civil Service.
President Muhammadu Buhari Monday ordered the immediate dismissal of Maina from service and called for an investigation into his controversial reinstatement four years after his sack, for absconding from work following his indictment for allegedly stealing over N100 billion from the pension fund.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby states categorically that it has no hand in the recall or reinstatement of Mr. Abdullahi Abdulrasheed Maina.
“There was no correspondence of any sort between the DSS and the Head of Service with respect to Mr. Maina. The DSS is not investigating him nor handling any matter connected to Maina and neither has the DSS ever forwarded any correspondence to Mr. President or any arm of government for the recall or reinstatement of Maina…
“The Service is aware that Mr. Maina is a civil servant and any disciplinary action as regards Maina’s official conduct will, therefore, be handled as required by the Civil service rules. So it will, therefore, be absurd for anybody to imply or insinuate that the DSS has a hand in the recall or reinstatement of Maina.”
The Ministry of Interior, headed by Abdulrahman Dambazau, a retired former Chief of Army Staff, where Maina was posted as an assistant director had in a statement said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita reinstated the official, a claim that her office has since swiftly denied in a terse statement.
However, a government memo seen by THEWILL on Monday showed that Maina’s recall was initiated by the controversial Attorney-General of the federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, who is believed to have partnered with Dambazau and the head of the Federal Civil Service Commission to reverse Maina’s dismissal from the civil service.
The EFCC maintains that Maina is a fugitive and has moved to effect his arrest.
