BEVERLY HILLS, August 30, (THEWILL) – Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has taken over the headship of the Federal Government negotiation team with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as the government seeks to find a lasting solution to the industrial action by the university lecturers.
This was revealed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, as he briefed State House correspondentson Wednesdayat the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting Chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
THEWILL recalls that ASUU embarked on nationwide strike on August 13 over the failure of the Government to implement an agreement it reached with the union in 2009 as it alleged that the Federal Government did not implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the two sides signed in 2013.
The union said it would call off its strike after receiving a positive response to its demands from the Federal Government and boycotted a meeting which it was scheduled to hold with the governmenton Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ngige also blamed the private sector of being responsible for the delay in announcing the Chairman of the Minimum Wage Review Committee declaring that the Federal Government was ready and plans to announce a Chairman for the Committee when all the names of representatives of the private sector is received.
