The One Friend Keeping Lamar Odom From Getting Help

A planned intervention for Lamar Odom was derailed by a close friend.

“[Odom] was supposed to come to the house — I had his family there,” Ron Dock, a certified addiction and recovery specialist brought on board by the Odom family, told Page Six Monday. The plan was to get troubled Odom, 37, into the Darryl Strawberry Recovery Center in Florida.

“The main focus was going to be his son and daughter. I had them write letters and they were going to submit the letters to their father explaining their feelings about his behavior,” Dock continued. “It was all set in place until this negative energy came. For [his friend’s] own selfish motives, sabotage the intervention.”

According to Dock, the unnamed friend keeping the troubled star closely guarded is someone Odom grew up with in Queens. “I think some people want people around you to keep you sick so they can get what they want from you,” Dock said. “I believe this is the case here.”

Odom’s two children Destiny and Lamar Jr., his aunt JaNean Mercer and ex-wife Liza Morales were all part of the group planning to confront the ex-NBA star. No Kardashian family members were present.

During the course of the five-hour ordeal, the group traveled to a Manhattan hotel where Odom was staying.

“The family and I got there,” Dock said. “[Odom’s friend] called us back and said ‘Hey, I told him you was coming and he got up and left.’ As far as I know he might have still been in there. I don’t know.”

Dock blames the toxic friend for thwarting the plan. “I think this guy just kept us away from him,” Dock said. “He’s a very ugly person. If anything happens to Lamar, I would blame that energy right there.”

The family never got face time with Odom, who was escorted off a plane in mid-July for allegedly vomiting on himself while intoxicated.

“We did a little prayer right in the middle of the hotel,” Dock said, adding Odom’s kids were most affected by the failed intervention. “They were severely crushed. That part broke my heart. To see the despair in their faces, it was bone killing. It really hurt.”

While the family thanked him for his efforts, it’s unclear if they’ll make another attempt anytime soon.

“We’re just trying to save a life,” he explained. “But they told me and thanked me for my support and being there. I let them know if he’s ever ready, I would fly back up there and personally take him to the treatment center. We have a bed ready for him. All he has to do is say ‘I surrender.’”

Dock, along with Darryl Strawberry, runs two treatment facilities in Florida.

“If you’re not ready, you’re not ready. I’m not going to blame the gatekeeper because Lamar has a role in this … My hopes is that the light comes on before he dies.”

Extra was first to report the intervention.
