Super Eagles Maintains 51st Position In FIFA Ranking

SAN FRANCISCO, January 19, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Super Eagles has retained the 51st position in the first world rankings for 2018 released on Thursday by the world football governing body, FIFA.

The Eagles appeared on the 51st position in the world and also retained their 9th spot in Africa on the ranking.

In the latest rankings, the Eagles have 651 points, an increase from the 640 points they had in December.

Tunisia moved up four places and are now Africa’s highest ranked team with 915 points and now 23rd in the world, a one-place increase from their December rankings.

Senegal, who were ranked 23rd in December, dropped a place to 24th, to become second in Africa. Egypt also climbed a spot to 30th position and are third on the continent.

Morocco, who are fourth in Africa, climbed a spot to 39th while DR Congo dropped four spots to 43rd in the world. They are now ranked fifth in Africa.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Group D foes, Argentina were also non-movers as they remain fourth in the world.

But the Super Eagles’ two other World Cup group opponents, Croatia and Iceland, moved up two places. Croatia stepped up to 15th, while Iceland moved two places to 20th.

Germany are still the number one team in the world while the top ten teams in the world are unchanged.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on February 15, 2018.
