Suicide Bombers Kill Muslim Worshippers In Bama Mosque

SAN FRANCISCO, April 22, (THEWILL) – Two female suicide bombers have killed two Muslim worshipers and injured eight others when they detonated their explosives inside a local mosque in north eastern town of Bama, Borno state.

According to locals, two female suicide bombers belonging to suspected Boko Haram terrorists group, at about 5:40 am on Sunday, sneaked into worshipers and carried out the attack.

The Police have confirmed the incident and said it had deployed its anti -bomb squad to the scene.

“At about 5.40am of today, 2 female suicide bombers infiltrated into Ajilari area in Bama town, Bama LGA and launched a suicide bomb attack on residents observing morning (Asuba) prayers,” Police spokesman in Borno, DSP Edet Okon said in a statement.

“They detonated the IEDs strapped to their bodies, killing themselves and two other male victims. Eight other persons were injured and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

“The corpses have also been evacuated. The Borno state Police command had deployed men of the PMF and EOD personnel to render the area safe and return normalcy.”

The attack happened barely three weeks after Internal DIsplaced Persons (IDPs) were being returned to Bama, the most devastated town in the almost a decade long Boko Haram Insurgency.

Many of the residents were happy to return home after four years sojourn in Maiduguri, however some residents were apprehensive of the security situation in the area despite government continued assurances.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Borno state, Damian Chukwu has assured members of the public of the commitment of the command to safeguard lives and properties at all times.
