Soldiers ‘Surround’ Nnamdi Kanu’s Home; ‘Vandalise’ Abia NUJ Office

SAN FRANCISCO, September 12, (THEWILL) – Soldiers of the Nigerian Army on Tuesday paraded the hometown of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, with armoured tanker, even as IPOB members blocked the street leading to Kanu’s house.

The soldiers were said to have arrived the community in Umuahia, Abia state in about 10 armoured personnel carriers and seven Hilux vehicles.

Some of the soldiers also stormed the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, also in Umuahia. Items including laptops and other valuable were said to have been destroyed at the secretariat.

Confirming the raid, Chairman of Council, John Emejor expressed disappointment over the incidents said a National officer of the Union Ezeogo Bonny Okoro was slapped by one of the Soldiers.

“Our press centre was invaded by soldiers, two Journalists lost their IPads and phones, while a national leader in the office was attacked.

“Our stand is that those involved in this attack on innocent Journalists should be fished out and punished in line with the constitution of the Country,” he said.
