BEVERLY HILLS, March 23, (THEWILL) – The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr David Babachir Lawal, has made an about-face on his use of a legal action against the Senate on its probe into the alleged management of funds meant for the rehabilitation of the North-East as reason not to appear before a panel investigating the allegation.
The SGF was billed to appear on Thursday before the Senate panel led by Senator Shehu Sani (APC, Kaduna), which is investigating the Presidential Initiative on North East, PINE.
But in a letter written to the panelon Wednesday, Lawal stated that he would not appear before it because he had approached a court over the matter.
However, in a new letter on Thursday, the SGF asked the Senate to give him another date for appearance before its Ad Hoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East which is carrying out the investigation.
He explained that the request for the rescheduling of his appearance before the panel is “primarily because of a pressing engagement of government which clashed with the date and time of the hearing”.
