BEVERLY HILLS, November 26, (THEWILL) – The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointments of Mr. Ahmed Kuru as Managing Director, Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) and four executive directors of the firm.
The Executive Directors are Kola Ayeye, Eberechukwu Uneze and Aminu Ismail.
The confirmation of their appointments followed the assembly’s consideration of the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions on the matter.
The Senate also read for a second time the Bill for and Act to Ensure Full Integration of Persons with Disabilities into the Society.
The bill also seeks to establish a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities.
The bill, sponsored by Deputy Majority Whip, Sen. Francis Alimikhena (APC-Edo North), seeks socio-economic protection, education and health care for persons living with disabilities.
In another development, the Senate has mourned the death of Alhaji Abubakar Audu, the governorship candidate of APC in the Nov. 21 election in Kogi.
All the senators who spoke described the late Audu as a bridge builder and an astute politician who worked tirelessly for the advancement of Kogi when he was the governor.
The Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
The legislators resolved to send a delegation to be led by its President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to visit the state and commiserate with the government and people of Kogi as well as the Audu family.
Meanwhile, the Companies Income Tax Act (Amendment) Bill 2015 and Communication Service Tax Bill, 2015 have passed the first reading in the Senate.
The Senate also passed for first reading the Minerals and Mining Act, 2007 (Amendment) Bill, 2015; Constituency Development Catalyst Fund Bill 2015 and Renewable Energy Bill 2015.
The Senate, thereafter, adjourned plenary till Tuesday.
