Sky Sports understands Egyptian food mogul Mohamed Farag Amer is exploring the option to buy a Premier League club.

A UK representative is understood to be working on the deal, with sources close to Farag Amer revealing that talks are ongoing with interested parties.

It has not been revealed which clubs Farag Amer is in discussions with, but the likes of Aston Villa and Hull City are both actively looking for new owners.

Farag Amer is one of Egypt’s most successful businessmen, having founded the biggest and most diverse food company in the country, the Faragalla group.

Farag Amer first entered the football market in 1998, when he was elected president of FC Smouha, at that time a fourth division team. He eventually purchased the club and, under his direction, steadily developed it until it reached Egypt’s Premier League for the first time in it’s history in 2010-2011.

The club finished last season in second position in the Egyptian league and boast some of the most notable talents in the country, including the widely touted Ahmed Hamoudi, a mainstay of the national squad.

Any purchase of a Premier League club would put Farag Amer in the company of two other prominent Egyptian businessmen with past or current ownership in England’s top league – Assem Allam of Hull City and Mohamed Al-Fayed, formerly of Fulham.
