SAN FRANCISCO, July 30, (THEWILL) – Ahead of the August 17 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, former two-term governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has withdrawn his interest in the chairmanship position of the party, stating that he will now be supporting High Chief Raymond Dokpesi’s bid for the post.

He disclosed this on Friday when he hosted Dokpesi and his team at Conference Hotel & Suites, Sagamu, expressing confidence in the ability of the media mogul to rebuild the party and make it the darling of Nigerians.

Daniel stated that he has been under pressure from stakeholders to contest, but that he will abandon his ambition to support Dokpesi.

“I have known High Chief for more than four decades and it beholds on me that I should support him whenever he is seeking any position,” he said amidst applause.

In his remarks, Dokpesi thanked the former governor, assuring him that he will not disappoint as he will work assiduously to bring unity to the PDP South West and ensure that the party wins elections in the geopolitical zone.
