BEVERLY HILLS, November 28, (THEWILL) – The prompt response of the military Friday in Maiduguri saved the Borno State capital from being rocked by another bomb blast.
Some residents of the town had woken to see some strange objects around the Customs area of the town and had quickly alerted the military.
The military moved in to detonate the objects found to be explosives thus sparking off a loud explosion which sent residents scampering for safety out of the fear that the Boko Haram insurgents had stormed the town again.
The explosives were said to have been planted in the night by the insurgents who were only waiting for the right time to detonate them. Only on Tuesday, a twin suicide bombing had rocked the city’s central market, killing scores and injuring many others.
However, allaying the fears of the residents over the loud explosion in the town Friday morning, spokesman of the youth vigilante group, Jubrin Gunda, said there was no need for alarm as the explosion heard was from the detonated explosives by the military.
“The people of the area woke up to see the strange object and immediately called the attention of the military who moved to the place to discover that it was an explosive device.
“They went to the area and detonated the bomb at about 10:45am.”
“It was the sound of the detonated bomb that was heard in some parts of the town that caused panic,” Gunda explained, saying no casualty was recorded from the controlled detonation.
