Ooni Says There Are Over 500 Million Yoruba People In The World

BEVERLY HILLS, April 21, (THEWILL) – The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has disclosed that there are over 500 million Yoruba persons in the world, adding that majority of this number migrated from Nigeria to other parts of the globe.

He made this known on Friday while receiving the Oloyotunji of Oyotunji, Sheldon South Carolina, USA, Oba Adefunmi Egunjobi, in his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

“Yoruba constituted over 500 million people in the world, majority of this population migrated from Nigeria to other part of the world to domicile like Caribbean Island, North- America, Brazil, Argentina, Cuba, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritania, Ivory-Coast, Ghana among others especially during the Atlantic slave trade, but yet they still find their root with identification as Yoruba lineage,” the Ooni said.

He further stated that the Yoruba people are distinctive people who are bound together by a common language with different dialect, adding that people of that nation share rich culture, traditions and value.

The monarch offered prayers and showered royal blessing on Oba Adefunmi and his entourage. The visiting Oba thanked Ogunwusi and the people of Ile-Ife for the warm reception accorded him and his entourage on their royal home coming visit to their African ancestral home.
