BEVERLY HILLS, July 23, (THEWILL) – Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have debunked the rumours making the rounds that the state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has been served with impeachment notice.

Speaking at a news conference at the House of Assembly, Ibadan on Wednesday, the Chairman of the House Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Fatai Salam and other lawmakers said that there had not been any allegation of misconduct leveled against the governor that could warrant any impeachment.
Salam said that the 32-member House was still intact and solidly behind Governor Ajimobi.

He explained that members of the 7th Assembly had, since inception, been enjoying good relations with one another irrespective of their party affiliations and, therefore, has no plan to disrupt the existing peace in the state.

“Since three years ago, we have been having good and smooth relationship with the governor. The 32 members have been having everything in a very civil and civilized way. There has never been any issue that could spark the rumours being peddled around.

“In our operations, the House has been having good relationship with the executive arm of government and the governor, and nothing that is going on in the North can get to the level of impeaching the governor.

“I want to tell the people of Oyo State and the whole world to disregard the news that the House is planning anything against the governor of the state. One of the paramount things that is very vital to the desire of the state House of Assembly is to ensure peace in the state,” the assembly man said.

The lawmaker, who was flanked by 10 other members, said that the news briefing was not attended by all members of the House because the House was currently on recess.

He appealed to the people of the state to remain calm and go about their normal businesses, stressing that there was no impeachment move whatsoever against the governor.

News that 24 members of the House had signed an impeachment notice to remove Governor Ajimobi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from office surfaced on Wednesday in the social media.
