SAN FRANCISCO, October 22, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s ruling the political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Wednesday that the deadline for aspirants to purchase expression of interest and nomination forms for the party’s primaries will not be extended beyond the stipulated 6.pm, October 30, 2014, date as earlier scheduled.

National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh told journalists after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja that all aspirants in the party seeking to contest various elective positions in the 2015 general elections must obtain forms before the set deadline.

“No aspirant can obtain forms for our congress and convention 2014 after the deadline, 30th of October. The deadline will not be extended,” he said.

Political activities in Africa’s most populous nation have edged higher since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the timetable for the 2015 general election slated for the first quarter of 2015.

President Goodluck Jonathan, an Ijaw from the oil-rich South South region is expected to seek reelection on the platform of the PDP in an election that analysts expect to be tight if the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), a coalition of opposition political parties, field a widely popular candidate.
