SAN FRANCISCO, August 20, (THEWILL) – 5 persons suspected to have been infected with the deadly Ebola disease have been admitted at the Mainland Hospital in Yaba, Lagos, according to State Health Commissioner, Mr. Jide Idris.

Idris in a press briefing Wednesday said of the 5 new cases admitted on Tuesday 2 were secondary contacts.
With the latest development, Lagos so far has 12 confirmed suspected Ebola cases, the official said, adding that five victims have died from the disease in Lagos, while “We are currently following up 213 contacts…”
He also confirmed the death of Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, 58, the lead Consultant at First Consultants Hospital in Obalende, Lagos, where Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American man that brought the disease to Lagos was first treated.
The World Health Organisation Tuesday said the number of Ebola related deaths since the latest outbreak of the disease in the West African states of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria has topped 1229 while 2240 cases have been reported.
WHO said 113 new cases were recorded between August 14 and 16 in the countries.
