SAN FRANCISCO, November 25, (THEWILL) – Following last week’s two-day joint assessment of the operations of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Adamawa State by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNCHR), International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the Nigerian Red Cross, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, NEMA has deployed more personnel, water tankers and ambulances to the four IDPs camps in the state in order to make life comfortable for the IDPs.
A statement issued Tuesday by the Senior Information Officer of NEMA, Sani Datti, said after the two-day assessment visit to Adamawa state recently, more personnel, water tank and a Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) ambulance have been deployed to improve the welfare and management of IDPs in the camps within the state.
According to the statement, the personnel deployed to the state would help in maintaining proper and modern camp management and camp coordination while the MICU ambulance would be mobilised to respond to emergencies in any of the camps.
The statement disclosed that NEMA in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency and the Red Cross were doing everything possible to identify those IDPs living in host communities so that they too could benefit from the relief items provided.
Maintaining that the NEMA Director General is ready to work with all religious bodies and NGOs in a coordinated manner, it noted that an ad – hoc committee set up by NEMA, headed by Mallam Sa’ad Bello, has already commenced operation.
It added that the IDPs were being re-registered and issued with identity numbers just as new camps had been identified in Bekaji area of Jimeta, Numan and Shelleng, and while communities are being accessed.
