BEVERLY HILLS, July 29, (THEWILL) – The ban imposed by the Nigerian Army on vehicular movement in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, has been lifted.
The ban was meant to nip any terrorist attack during the Eid-El-Fitri festivities in the bud .
It nonetheless caused residents of the metropolis untold hardship as they were left with no option than to trek long distances while others were forced to stay indoors as the ban lasted.
However, a statement issued Tuesday and signed by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Colonel Muhammad Dole, said vehicular movement which was banned on Sunday will now resume as from Wednesday morning.
“On behalf of the entire officers and soldiers of 7 Division Nigerian Army, the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Brigadier General Mohammed Ibrahim, wishes to congratulate the good people of Borno State on the successful completion of Ramadan fast and the hitch-free Sallah celebrations in Maiduguri in particular and other parts of the state.
“The ban on vehicular movement in Borno State is hereby lifted with effect from 7am on Wednesday, 30 July 2014, ” the statement said.
The Army however asked members of the public to remain vigilant and alert and report “any suspicious objects, persons and movements to the security agencies.”
