BEVERLY HILLS, September 20, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government said on Saturday that it had secured power installations in the North East against further attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.

Disclosing this in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was the Minister of State for Power, Hon. Mohammed Wakil, who was speaking at the distribution of relief materials to displaced persons at one of the various camps for those displaced by Boko Haram in the Borno State capital.

He said “The Federal Government has taken all necessary measures to secure all power installations not only in Borno but across North East region to forestall a reoccurrence of the recent vandalisation of Maiduguri line.”

While urging the residents of the state to keep an eye on all Federal Government’s property in their vicinity put a stop to their vandalisation , Wakil said : “As much as we know the state is under security challenges, it is also our duty to support security forces in these difficult and dangerous times.”

Activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the state had made power installations prime targets resulting into a long-drawn power outage in most parts of the state.

Mostly affected was the destruction of power installations near Damboa.

But the Minister commended the patience of the people as he assured that the Federal Government was already dealing with the situation.

“Mr. President commends the patience of the people of the state over the month long power outage. This unfortunate incident has never happened in the history of Borno state.

“We should all recall that this outage happened not due to technical fault but because of insurgent attacks on the installation. The Federal Government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that power is restored to the state without further delay. In due course, blackout will be a thing of the past in this state.

“The Federal Government is however taken a holistic look at the power situation in Borno state. I want to assure you all that all ongoing power projects are been fast tracked. Just few days ago, an approval was given for a new transformer to compliment the Baga road substation which we all know is now over loaded and aged. This is the first addition to the transmission capacity in Borno state since Maiduguri station was commissioned, ” he said.

Wakil however used the opportunity of the event to deliver the condolence message of President Goodluck Jonathan to the people of the state, saying: “I am here as a representative of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR who is passionately committed to resolving the conflict in this state while also providing relief to our displaced citizens.”
