SAN FRANCISCO, July 02, (THEWILL) – The controversy surrounding the hasty reversal of Professor Attahiru Jega’s transfer of power at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Ambassador Ahmed Wali, one of the most senior and respected National Commissioners at commission has refused to go away.
It has emerged that that Kaduna State Governor, Mr. Nasiru El-rufai, played a key role in the reversal and appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari, one of his old squeezes, as the Acting Chairman of INEC.
Hours after Jega successfully handed over the realms of INEC to Wali in a ceremony at INEC following his retirement, sources told THEWILL that El-rufai, who was in Abuja for the inaugural meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) which held at the Presidential Villa a day before Jega’s retirement, hurriedly got in touch with President Muhammadu Buhari and convinced him to reverse Jega’s action.
Sources with knowledge of the development further told THEWILL that the governor has been bedding Amina since her days as a staff of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), an agency under the Ministry of the FCT, where she served as ES Health, whilst El-rufai was Minister in charge of the Ministry.
THEWILL could not independently confirm whether both adults are still romantically linked but our source said they are still very in touch.
The PDP Wednesday faulted and rejected her appointment saying the reversal would “inject bad blood at the Commission.”
